Hunting

Hunting deer, turkey, black bear and most small game is a popular use of the forest during designated seasons. Other than a few safety zones around buildings and picnic areas, hunting is permitted throughout the state forest. A 1,357-acre tract has been designated in the Sideling Hill area for off-road access by disabled hunters.

Shawnee is our “Lake Park”. Located along Route 30 near Schellsburg, Shawnee consists of 3,983 acres with a 451 acre lake. Picnic tables and fire rings are available. Non-powered and electric boats are permitted with a permit or registration. Rentals available. A 12 mile hiking / biking system is also suitable for cross country skiing.
